WORSHIP AND PRAYER

 

DAILY MASS is celebrated each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at 9:00.  Mass is celebrated each Friday lunchtime at 12:05 PM

 

The ROSARY is publicly prayed after each weekday morning Mass  There is BENEDICTION and COMMUNAL PRAYER BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT each Wednesday following 9:00 morning Mass.

 

There is a MEN’S FELLOWSHIP meeting every Saturday morning, 7:30-9:00. Between 10 and 20 men of various ages and experience join together for prayer, scripture study and discussion in a classroom. You are welcome to attend one time or every week.  No advance registration necessary.  Call Gerry Connell ( 248.761.2215) for more information.

 

If you have offered a Mass for someone and would like to BRING UP THE GIFTS OF BREAD AND WINE during that particular Mass, simply tell an usher before Mass begins.  Even if you didn’t offer an intention, you or you and your family should simply ask an usher before Mass at any Mass you attend if you would like to present the gifts for Mass.

 

There is a group of parish members who do HOME VISITS to offer a short visit and Holy Communion to our parish shut-ins and local convalescant homes, either alone or in pairs, to let them know their parish is praying for them.  There is also a group of volunteers who regularly SEND QUICK NOTES OR CARDS our shut-ins to let them know they are not forgotten.  If you would like to volunteer OR be added to the list of those who are to be visited, please call the parish office.

 

OUR PARISH FACILITIES

 

There are simple TRANSPORT WHEEL CHAIRS available at both entrances to the church to help people get from the parking lot to church or church to parking lot.  

 

There is a CRY ROOM available for parents with infants or restless children.  You enter through the social hall at the south end of the building.  There are BABY CHANGING TABLES in both men and women restrooms in the classroom wing or south end of the building

 

The BOXED STAIN GLASS WINDOWS  in the east side parking lot vestibule and interior walls are from the former Saint Columban church.

 

In our Parish PRAYER AND MEMORIAL GARDEN at the north entrance to the church, you will find the 14 Stations of the Cross from the former Saint Alan.  The Stations of the Cross inside our church, as well as the Tabernacle, are from the former Saint Columban.

 

Items found left in the church or social hall are placed in our LOST AND FOUND box outside the business office.

 

CHRISTIAN SERVICE

 

There is an ongoing FOOD DRIVE to supply the local food bank at SAINT DOMINIC’S OUTREACH  Groceries can always be placed in the blue canvas collection bin located in the North entrance vestibule.

 

There is a small group from our parish who volunteer at the GLEANERS FOOD BANK on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays monthly. Volunteers usually sort and box groceries to be delivered by the Gleaners organization. For more information call Tom Lenhard (248.544.7913)

 

The parish has donated WHEELCHAIRS and WALKERS that are available to be loaned for your use short term or long term.

 

Our parish sponsors SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT dePAUL.  Members of the SVDP answer calls the parish receives for financial or other types of assistance.  Donations made to the parish POOR BOX (located in the wall at the North entrance) as well as contributions made using the SVDP envelopes are regularly forwarded to the SVDP leadership.  For more information on getting involved call Cesar Gonzalez (248.641.?9609)

 

 

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS

 

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES for children in GRADE 1 through GRADE 8 are held Monday nights from 6:00 until 7:30 beginning Monday, September 25.  EARLY REGISTRATION IS NECESSARY.  Forms are available in the church lobbies.  More information can be obtained by calling the Religious Education Office at 248.649.5510 ext.107.

 

Christ, Our Light! has a long tradition of sponsoring a Saturday Morning Religious Education Program for children and young adults with SPECIAL NEEDS.  The group meets from 10:00 until 11:30 beginning September 30. For more information call the SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM OFFICE at 248.649.5510 ext. 113.

 

There are two different CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS DURING SUNDAY MORNING MASSES.  The LITURGY OF THE WORD program is offered for children from 1st grade through 5th during the 11:00 Mass. Children are called out of church before Mass and return at the Offertory. Program begins October1.  No registration necessary

 

There are programs for PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN ages 3 to Kindergartem during both the 9:30 and 11:00 Masses.  Parents drop the children off in the classrooms and pick them up after Mass.  Program begins October 1.  No registration necessary.

 

Our parish sponsors a YOUTH MINISTRY for high school students.  The group meets for activities, service and recreation on its own or together with youth groups from other parishes.  The schedule of meeting dates and times is published in THE SPOTLIGHT.  For more information call our YOUTH MINISTER, Mrs. Elaine Cevera (248.649.5510  ext. 105).

 

Father Demmer regularly leads our parish RCIA CLASSES.  The Rite of the Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program is for adults who are interested in being Baptized into the Catholic Church.  It is also may include adults who have missed a Sacrament like Confirmation along the way.  The class is frequently attended by adults who are simply interested in learning or relearning more about their Catholic faith.  Classes meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00 until 8:00 beginning September 27. No early registration is necessary.  Call the Parish Office (248.649.5510) for more information.

 

There is an ADULT BIBLE STUDY on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 to Noon beginning Wednesday, October 4. The Bible and Bagels group begins with a continental breakfast, watches an instructional video and then return for table discussion.  This year the group will study THE BOOK OF EXODUS.

 

FELLOWSHIP

 

The opportunity for COFFEE AND DONUTS after the 9:30 and 11:00 Sunday Masses is made possible by volunteer families or friends willing to host after one Mass. The cost of the donuts and bagels is covered by the parish.  As a volunteer, your responsibility is to pick up the donuts, arrange them for service, make coffee and clean up afterwards.

 

The group known by some as THE 50 UPPERS has changed their name to the THURSDAY LUNCH BUNCH.  The Lunch Bunch seniors meet at NOON on the 3rd Thursday of the month for light lunch, conversation and activities.  

 

A group of novice and experienced MAH JONG players gather each Monday in the social hall to play the game from noon until 3.  New players always welcome.

 

A BOOK CLUB meets monthly on the 1st Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the social hall. The selected book is usually published in the parish bulletin and website.

 

STAY AT HOME MOMS with young children meet each TUESDAY morning from 10:00 -11:00 in one of the classrooms to enjoy fellowship, conversation and prayer with their children and other moms with young children.

 

SOCIAL MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS

 

THE SPOTLIGHT is our parish newsletter or bulletin published weekly and avilable after Masses and through the week. Back copies of THE SPOLIGHT from the three previous weeks can be found outside the Parish office.

 

Our parish has a PARISH WEBSITE that is updated regulalrly.  The website often includes photos of parish activities that are not printed in the THE SPOTLIGHT as well as a video tour of the parish.       Website: christourlight.weconnect.com
